The winds have begun to subside, the rain continues on and off........I was just out walking around for about an hour. The water levels here on the Papaloapan river have remained constant (I understand that they are controlling flow somewhat from the Miguel Aleman dam which is located not too far from Tuxtepec, Oaxaca.
As I understand it the Hurricane Stan (category I) touched land near Roca partida/Montepio just to the north of the Tuxtlas Mtns., supposedly the volcanic geography of theTuxtlas helped take some of the "kick" out of the winds of the hurricane.
The next 24 to 36 hours will be interesting to observe.......although the winds seem to be dissapating, we have recieved alot of moisture and more is still out in the Gulf headed this way.
here is a link to the lastest water vapor imagery as of 15:30 Oct 4, 2005
